We Want WP is a WordPress development studio in Toronto. Fourteen people, one office, and one platform we have been working on since 2015.
The studio started because two of us kept being handed the same job: a WordPress site somebody else had built quickly, that had since become the most important thing the business owned and the least understood. Sorting those out turned into a business of its own, and building them properly in the first place turned into a better one.
What we believe about WordPress
WordPress runs a very large share of the web because it is easy to start with. That same ease is why so many WordPress sites end up unmaintainable. A site accumulates plugins the way a garage accumulates tools, and after three years nobody can say what half of them do or what would break if they went.
So we build differently. Every site we ship has a custom theme with the layout in templates, not in a page builder’s database rows. We keep third-party plugins to what genuinely earns its place. When something needs to happen that WordPress does not do, we write it, document it, and hand it over.
How we work
Fixed scope, fixed price, agreed before anyone writes a line. If the scope changes we tell you what it costs before we do it, not after. We have never sent a client an invoice they were not expecting.
You get a staging URL on the first day of the build and it stays up until launch. There is no big reveal at the end. Most of our clients look at it every few days, and the ones who do not still like knowing they could.
Who works here
Seven developers, three designers, two project managers, one QA specialist and one person who does everything else and is quietly the reason any of it works. Everyone is in Toronto. We do not subcontract, and we do not hand your project to someone you have never spoken to.
The dull but important part
We carry professional liability insurance. We sign your NDA, or ours, whichever you prefer. Your code lives in a repository you own, on your account, from day one — if you ever want to work with somebody else, everything you need is already in your hands. We think that is the minimum, and we say it out loud because in this industry it apparently is not.
