You have a designer. You have a host. What you need is somebody to turn one into the other, properly, and then get out of the way.
Block themes and classic themes
We build both, and we will tell you honestly which one your project should be. Block themes are the direction WordPress is going and give your editors far more control. Classic themes are still the right answer when the site has heavy custom functionality or a long-lived plugin stack that expects them.
What we do not do is start with a commercial theme and modify it until it is unrecognisable. That approach looks cheaper for about six months.
What “properly” means here
- Templates and template parts that map to how your content is actually organised
- A theme.json that carries your type scale, spacing and colour, so editors cannot accidentally leave the design system
- Patterns for every layout in the design, so a new page is an assembly job rather than a build
- Accessible markup, keyboard navigation and colour contrast checked against WCAG 2.2 AA
- Passing the WordPress theme coding standards, because a linter is cheaper than a code review
Working with your designer
We are comfortable being handed Figma and left alone, and we are equally comfortable in a weekly call. What we ask for is a design that has decided what happens at the breakpoints. If it has not, we will ask, and that conversation is much cheaper before the build than during it.
What it costs
Most theme projects land between $9,000 and $22,000 and take four to seven weeks. A theme with a large pattern library or an unusual editorial layout can go higher, and we say so at the scope stage.
